Pinhole Technique
Ironwood Dental Care in Queen Creek, AZ, your exceptional dental office
“I’ve been to a few dental offices trying to find the right fit. [At] most offices I always feel so judged about my teeth. But here I feel like I’m actually getting the care I need. Zero judgement. The dentists and dental assistants are amazing and seem to actually enjoy their work. Plus the front desk is always so helpful too. . .”

PINHOLE TECHNIQUE
What is the Pinhole Technique?
This procedure involves using a tiny needle to create a pinhole in the gum tissue. Specialized instruments gently loosen and reposition the gum tissue through this pinhole to cover the exposed root surface. Collagen strips are then placed in the pinhole to help stabilize the gum tissue in its new position.
Why Choose the Pinhole Technique?
- Minimally Invasive: The Pinhole Technique is much less invasive than traditional gum grafting surgery, which means less pain and discomfort for the patient. In addition, there is no need for incisions or sutures, and the recovery time is much shorter.
- Faster Treatment: The Pinhole Technique is a quick procedure that can often be completed in just one visit to our office. Traditional gum grafting surgery may require multiple appointments and more extensive treatment.
- Natural-Looking Results: The Pinhole Technique provides a more natural-looking result than traditional gum grafting surgery. The gum tissue is repositioned to cover the exposed root surface, creating a more even and healthy-looking gumline.
- Long-Lasting Results: The Pinhole Technique is a durable solution for gum recession. The collagen strips used to stabilize the gum tissue will eventually be replaced by natural collagen produced by the body, which helps ensure the longevity of the results.
What to Expect During the Pinhole Technique Procedure?
- Numbing: Local anesthesia will ensure your comfort during the procedure.
- Pinhole Creation: A small pinhole will be created in the gum tissue using a specialized needle.
- Tissue Repositioning: Using special instruments, the gum tissue will be gently loosened and repositioned to cover the exposed root surface.
- Collagen Strips: Collagen strips will be inserted into the pinhole to stabilize the gum tissue in its new position.
- Final Adjustments: Any final adjustments will ensure a natural-looking result.
- Recovery:After the procedure, you will be given specific aftercare instructions to help ensure a smooth recovery.
